Naxos Villages

Naxos Island, Greece is home to more than twenty different villages, all with unique offerings for tourists. The island as a whole has more than 150 kilometers of coastline and more than 400 kilometers of fertile land. Apiranthos and Filoti are two of the largest villages on the island of Naxos. Both are located toward the center of the island and have many great attractions for tourists, including the Church of Panagia Apeirathitissa in Apiranthos. Filoti offers many Byzantine monuments to explore, as well as a variety of scenic vineyards and orchards. Chalki is another village located in the valley of Tragea. Once the capital of the island, Chalki is now most known for its fertile land where olive trees and citrus trees grow. The village is also famous for the Citrus of Naxos, a liquor made from citrus fruit. Koronos is one of the villages that should not be missed by visitors because of the many sightseeing opportunities. Most visitors stop by to see the old village square and beautiful houses that line the narrow streets. There are also plenty of churches, folk artists, and traditional kitchens to dine in. While the village of Sagri is mainly known for its agriculture, there are still many opportunities for visitors to explore the settlement. Some highlights include a number of medieval towers that were built in the 17th century. If you come in the summer, you will be able to see the Festival of Naxos. The village of Kynidaros is the main source of water from the spring and the island’s marble mines.
